Fun with Hamlet

Or, should I say, proving the impossible possible.
WARNING: BELOW BE EXTREMELY FANDOM-AFFLICTED CONTENT THAT MIGHT JUST CAUSE HEAD TRAUMA AND ANNOYANCE WITH THE ENTIRE FAN CONCEPT. MEANING, MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE FANGIRL CULT. SEVERELY SO. HENCE BE GENTLE. (NO COMPLAINTS ACCEPTED OR ACKNOWLEDGED, PLEASE AVOID IF EASILY BOVVERED.) DIRECTED, IN PARTICULAR, AT TENNAT-FANATICS AND POESY READERS AND OTHERS WITH PECULIAR INTEREST IN THE WORLD OF WHO, X-MEN & FANFICTION.

Soundtrack: Heather Nova - "Oyster" & "Siren". Speaking of the people of the science fiction business that I admire. And love, really. Sometimes, even the most well-known, well-situated sci-fi heroes choose to change their hunting grounds, and enter a completely different dimension. Set of guidelines, if you will. Then, what they turn out to portray, the impression they suddenly give, might differ quite radically from their usual appearances. Whatever accustomed personality they tend to behold. And, in fact, I find myself in this kind of situation right now. As mentioned here before, the Royal Shakespeare Company is doing "Hamlet" at the moment, in Stratford Upon Avon, and they've managed to make a common science fiction fan-fest out of it; for the fondest of "Doctor Who" as well as "Star Trek" and "X-men" followers, and all groups alike. With David Tennant as the King and Patrick Stewart as his opponent, Claudius, in a very modern rendition of the play. Regretfully, I won't be able to attend the performances, and so - instead of just sitting still and moping over this unbearable pity - I've been having some fun with the promo pics. Courtesy of david-tennant.com - and Daily Mail, which chose to do an entire article about the stage production lately. Ever so wonderful to visit online news sites and immediately be confronted with the familiar face of someone very dear, beaming out at me, through the front pages. Of course, I find myself enthralled - and, more than anything, inspired.

MACROSTUFF: First of all, here (below) be my slightly inexperienced and humble, but very intent attempt at making a Whovian/Trekkie-crossover macro parody thing, or whatever I should call it, based on certain inside jokes, my personal dry humour, and involving the two main characters in the midst of some incredibly amusing body work. Mimicry, that is. (And, my goodness, is that a screwdriver he's holdning in his right hand...?!) Click the pic for bigger version and, mind you, I think the two actors get along marvellously in real life. I just couldn't resist the temptation of speculating a bit on what's been going on behind the scenes, also adding to the imaginable prospects of actually having David Tennant's Doctor on "Star Trek" - and what this would imply, let alone bring about, for everyone working on the two shows. So, this is more in-character than anything, albeit by no means fact. Definately not canon, either. Just for the lolz - and failure warnings.

POETRY: Next, I got on to being intensely inspired, and making some very impromptu and, I hope, sufficiently poetic stuff - related to yet another (and much more flattering) original picture from said sites and articles. This is, in addition, much more poetry-on-demand than I've written in a long while; which was a pleasant old habit to catch up with, and try my hand at once again. I find it very challenging and exciting to be given an image; whether it's a screencap, a painting or some random photography; and making my own story based thereupon. In this particular case, it's a piece of highly influenced poesy, that's all about the physical features, the outfit, and the attitude displayed. And, of course, the man himself. Leaving it up to the reader to decide whether that means Tennat, The Bard or the main character of my own piece; or maybe the latter is a title that encompass all.

"arrival as approach" - in the presence of a king
by Scaramouche, the Po(t)et, fangirl, Tennant-itis infected Shakespeare follower and loyal supporter of anything theatrical. Also, fond of own and original and somewhat radical interpretations.

as shields were raised
and every veil undone
who else were king but I
a crown displaced
the metal made askew
such into view became
of figures, frantic
features suddenly
on gloomy backdrop fell
and filtered through
as such to hurl my claims
at watchful ears, in this
most glorious a night
shall I promote what's mine
my fateful legacy
and into these, to pour
the arts of thought
susceptibility in growth
what was, before, shut off
and shades of blank
now carries strategy
the slurred and dimlit words
sing false no more
but evidently cleared
instead of sharpened glances
forge too pregnably
like anything demanded
be a calling
cast and clustered into black
to follow but one lead
and mistake none
behold my every motion
I reach out to the obscure
with arms that manage
sense, and make thereof
what others once implored
now hear my soul
must here, for all, remain
a territory disclosed
and yet sequestered

MOAR SPEKULATIVENESS: And finally, just for laughs, and for the sake of my own and sole and extreme amusement - here's a little something...more. With regard to what it actually means, I could share with you all some personal suggestions as to what I believe he's trying to communicate, here, in the photo below; like, whether it's an awfully indiscrete RTD impersonation, succesful or not, in connection with his own reactions to any and all lousy scriptwriting; that abominable fate of forever being labelled angsty!Ten; the situation on the whole, wearing the tuxedo that always means trouble (when will he ever learn?), or his response to Shakespeare trying to make a pass on Martha, poor Martha, or - perchance - just general discontent with Scara's ever so sincere attempts at being, well, funny. You decide. I just post.
