Frankie goes to Scara-wood

I was watching one of my favourite films last night, "Dear Frankie", starring the Butler himself and Emily Mortimer - one of these rare pictures that make you go "awwww!"so frequently, it's almost exhausting. It might not be the best film ever made, but it's certainly one of the cutest. The story is well-writtem, the acting is superb, it has an important theme - which is wisely and aptly handled - and it also has a darker side to it, providing some depth in addition to the humour and romance. And it includes a kissing-sequence that has become a classic!

However, what I wanted to share was NOT only a listing of "10 reasons to love any film which has Gerry Butler in it, like I do" - but rather a poem I wrote in connection with the film's key message...here goes:

"The Present" - Remember, Frankie, we're all connected!
By Scaramouche, the po(t)et, with watery eyes
Dedicated to Lizzie & The Stranger

and then we stopped walking
beachside came into view
far ahead were dancers
seizing time; an only option

to crawl beneath a skin
without crossing over fences
a moment broken of relief
there's no need to make amends

more than one had thought
the seagulls cry, within the hour
but for now we are betroth
under a lamplight, promenading

ships dock, the nighttime brightens
across the water lies a future
back inside, attempted closeness
far apart, yet drawn together

and then we understand, more
rooftops come into view
despite restraining touches
there's awareness of connection

remember now, when compliments grow silent
a gaze was fixed onto a face
drops of sympathetic comfort
raised purely in the softest voice

intimacy may itself be scared
settled promises are not necessary
what's needed, sometimes, is quite little
just; truthful be the purer heart
