...and whilst we wait: the fourth series is soon ready to launch, but before the Doctor's new adventures may hit the television screens all over Britain, one needs to kill off yet another week of impatient longing. Meanwhile, however, BBC are (of course) cunning enough to induldge us with continuous utpdates, trailers and brand new promo stuff - although that does little to decrease the anticipation; the horror of the whole waiting issue. According to D-T.net, they intend to "whip us into a frenzy", and thus far they've succeeded. So, rather than being able to think of other things, and let my mind rest; occupied with different news and events; I find myself checking the DW boards regularly, only to find a whole bunch of new videos and pic's and posts and spoilers, and it's all becoming a bit of an obsession. More of an obsession, that is. Because the promotional work these guys deliver is not just well enacted, or pretty well placed, it's basically brilliant in every sense, it's got all the necessary, tingling, expectation-triggering features, and it's perfectly timed. So we can't resist, really, as we're hopelessly absorbed in all these obscure details; anxiously grasping for new straws of info, new revelations. The lot of us - a whole generation of fans who never seem to tire even of the same topics repeated over and over again. Did I mention Jack and Rose will be back? Together? And, not on the Titanic? Don't know why, exactly, but that never ceases to amuse me. And the two of them look pretty amused on set, so what could be better? Makes me happy, anyhow! SFX did a major article with pictures this month, and it seems grand. And, not to forget, the most recent trailer might also prove the best yet - clearly inspired by the first Eccleston-trailer; the one with the flames and the running; which leaves little room for disappointment, and equally giant space to fill with further anxiousness and - glee! Soon will be back! And here it is, for you to watch, and then judge for yourselves:
In addition, there's the glorious new fashionista dimension to the show; believe it or not; Donna's outfits in the promotional shots have so far managed to bring DW to a whole new level of stylishness. She's simply looking great, in every situation, and her leather jackets, tunics and suits are absolutely gorgeous. Who'd have thought we'd regard Catherine Tate as a fashion icon? Well, everything's possible in the world of, er, Who. What's more, she's apparantly had a bit of a general make-over; meaning, hair- and make-up-wise, she also looks better than ever. And with David Tennant as the ultimate accessory, this promises an even more suffessful turn to the program - on the whole. Which, in my opinion, is quite fortunate, since both Rose, Sarah Jane and Martha - in the former seasons - suffered from certain shortcomings in the dressing department. I bet Billie's still recovering from that pink tee she had to wear in "Aliens of London". Guh. Her wardrobe improved massively over the second season, though, growing to be an immense source of inspiration for myself as well. Whereas Freema could have used some more variation; wearing the same attire for the first five episodes of her run. With no exceptions, poor girl. She must have been sick of those jeans by the end of filming. Nor did I ever like her burgundy leather jacket, so maybe I'm a little biased. Loved Billie's jackets, anyhow, and her "Doomsday" look was a classic. I keep stealing ideas from her, when I dress, copying her looks without blinking and I want to get a similar hair-cut too, as soon as my hair's long enough. Point is, still, that "Doctor Who" is all about the big picture - bigger, better and beyond. They need to remain the best at everything, since they have all it takes to be so. Perfecting the characters' style in clothing may just contribute to this, and - to give them the rightous credit - they've always been quite good at this. Over the last series, they've taken a few missteps, but overall they've come pretty far and they still exceed all other series in every single term of quality. Christopher Eccleston is the hottest leather clad man in the history of television, John Simm was equally hot in a bloody dressing gown, evil man, and Paul McGann has been officially declared "The Oncoming Pretty". Curly hair, open white shirts, big blue eyes, oh-so-adorable. David Tennant is, well, David Tennant. Cutest thing there is, no arguing. With or without a tie on his head. And sunglasses. And a horse. But that set aside, and as mentioned above, series four might just round it off with the most exquisite sets so far. With regard to both scenery, settings and - yes - costumes. Jack's WWII-uniforms and the übersexy coat is back with a vengeance, Camille Coduri will probably contribute with some neon glowing glam, and Martha may (hopefully!) continue the rock-chic tendencies she sported over the last episodes and for her Torchwood cameo, whilst Billie will bring back some Punky Fish attitude and bright coloured hoodies; chav-y or not, I loved it. But no baggy, shapeless T-shirts for anyone this time, please? As for The Doctor himself, he seems to have returned mainly to his brown suit, for which all fangirls may cheer in happiness. Love the all-brown style - no danger of getting it wrong, there. The tux is a safe bet too, albeit it always gets him into trouble. But then again, what would Doctor Who be without a bit of ever-so-predictable, catatostrophic, oversized mess of troublesomeness? Yes, all in all, we've got very much to look forward to. Must have been through almost every aspect of the anticipation by now, too, covering any and all areas of possible doubt and speculations. I'm severely victimized by Who - and enjoy it more than I can say. 'Cos it's so...massive. Wild. Overwhelming. There's the fun, the angst, the tears, the love, the gadgets, the midgets, the box(es), the dungeons, the shipping, the ships, the planets, the villains, the blue, the meme's, the concepts, the art, the innuendos, the puns, the guns - and finally, the fashion. Yup, that too, obviously. No reason not to love Who, in other words. It's got it all and more. Here follows the original cinema trailer, now streamed through the BBC website in much better quality, and of course immediately copied onto youtube - with a good look at Donna's fancy clothes AND the infamous glimpse of Billie!
Moreover, it's worth mentioning that Empire Magazine have recently listed their 50 favourite TV-shows of all time, even naming their selections as "the best ever", and I was proud to find "Doctor Who" in a very decend 16th place, and "Heroes" conquering the 15th. "Simpsons" won, to no surprise, and "Spaced" - starring Who-folks Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson - gained a very impressive number 10th. Congratulations and well-earned. Naturally, DW should have won, but I suppose it's staus hasn't reached such heights in the US just yet. But maybe they'll open their eyes to the latest season and be fully convinced? It certainly promises to be convincing, this thing!
